Welcome to The Dealt Hand, we bring hosted, pop-up board game events across the state of Iowa! Our goal is to help folks get together for a game. Whether it’s in person at one of our hosted game events, or in your home through our rental and board game subscription program - or in your business - we have a solution for you! If there is anything we can do for you - let us know!
At our events, you’ll be greeted by a friendly face, that’s ready to answer questions and help you find the right game to play. We’ll have all of the resources you need to play at hand. Need people to play with? Ask the host - we’ll help you find a group! Social Anxiety? We have name-tags where you can share as much or as little as you want - helpful if you’re forgetful of names!
There are lots of things that can get in the way of play. At The Dealt Hand we do what we can to remove barriers by creating an environment that is open and inclusive, constantly looking for ways to make games more accessible. We bring general solutions to aid in accessibility (Electronic copies of rules, card and cup holders) and where needed, making modifications to the games themselves (adjustments to paint-schemes for colorblindness). Let us know how we can make things easier for you!
At every event, we'll bring a large portion of our games (click here to see our full list), and you can expect us to let you know ahead of time what you can expect: from parking, to accessible entrances, to what sort games to expect (not every event will be child friendly or appropriate for longer games). While every location and event will be different, our goal is to keep most events free or inexpensive. Check out our Events page or Facebook events for details!
The Dealt Hand is Mary and Joe Roth, long-time Des Moines residents, and long-time players of games of all sorts. When not hosting events, you’ll find us around town with our two girls, checking out art shows or local concerts!
